While its unsuspecting storefront on DeHart Street in Morristown looks like a place to toss in a load of whites, insert a quarter, and watch the clothes spin, nothing could be further from the truth!
The door to enter the bar is carefully hidden amongst the washers and dryers, but once you get downstairs, you enter Morristown’s only 23 and over bar. Mama D & The Vexations first played at The Laundromat Bar in 2016, and continues to pack the house with a wide range of night-lifers who can’t resist dancing to their special blend of rock, pop, soul, country, and classic rock.
The Laundromat opened in 2016 in the space that was once Dark Horse Lounge. Owners Pat and Billy Walsh wanted to create a prohibition-era speakeasy that is geared toward a more, shall we say, mature audience than the average Morristown club. They met with a local architecture firm and transformed the dark basement space into a bar and music venue . In order to create an element of surprise, Billy Walsh told the Daily Record: “We wanted it to be like ‘The Wizard of Oz’ when it goes from black and white to color,” he said. “So it had to be something weird upstairs. Like a bookstore. Or a Laundromat.”
The Laundromat boasts live music every night, Wednesdays through Sundays. While there is a wide range of performances offered at The Laundromat, you can be assured that the dance floor will be packed when Mama D & The Vexations takes the stage at one of their favorite venues in North Jersey. Fun fact: Did you know you can bring your own food with you to Laundromat? Grab some take out from your favorite local spot and bring it on down with you! The full band is thrilled to return to The Laundromat Saturday April 13, 2019 from 7-10pm featuring Donna Ward on Vocals, Nick Malishchak on Guitar/Vocals, Jasmine Bloch-Krempels on Bass/Vocals, John Holmok on Drums, and Jordon Bloch on Guitar/Harmonica/Vocals. No cover, 23 and over.
